Reno, Nev. – Reno Orthopaedic Clinic (ROC) is now seeing patients at its new South Reno facility located at 10085 Double R Boulevard. The newest addition to ROC’s seven sites in Northern Nevada, the facility allows ROC’s team of orthopaedic specialists to care for residents of the rapidly growing South Meadows in their own neighborhood.

“As our practice has grown along with the community over the past 50 years, we have remained focused on quality orthopaedic care,” said ROC surgeon Timothy J. Bray, M.D. “Reno Orthopaedic Clinic has a talented team of physicians who are accessible to patients throughout Northern Nevada in our multiple clinic locations.”

Services at the new site include orthopaedics, pain management, hand therapy and physical therapy. Patients benefit from state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment such as Computed Radiography (CR), which allows ROC to capture hospital-quality digital x-rays that are superior to conventional film x-rays. The clinic’s electronic medical record system enables physicians and clinical staff to efficiently track patient information and securely exchange data with other healthcare providers.

With three locations in Reno as well as facilities in Sparks, Fallon, Winnemucca and Elko, ROC has made it easier for patients to be treated close to home, which is especially important to patients with painful injuries.

The foot and ankle is a vital component to our everyday activities. Fortunately, most of us are able to get through each day with little appreciation for what we are able to accomplish with healthy, painless feet. However, all of us at some point in our lives will have an ailment with our feet or ankles that will remind us of their importance. There are 26 bones in the foot and ankle. We place one and a half times our body weight with each step. This can rise to seven times our body weight with running. We walk about 1000 miles per year. Each foot has to cushion as much as one million pounds of pressure per hour during strenuous exercise. Problems with the foot and ankle can be compartmentalized into pain or difficulty with shoe ware. Hand Therapy

A hand therapist is an occupational or physical therapist who, through advanced study, specializes in rehabilitating patients with conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity.

Our hand therapists works with patients who may have been affected by an accident or trauma leaving them with wounds, scars, burns, injured tendons or nerves, fractures, or even amputation of the finger, hand, or arm. They also treat patients who are disabled from the affects of cumulative trauma disorders – such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome. Many patients seeking the care of a hand therapist also suffer from such chronic problems as arthritis or a neurological condition.

Our hand therapists work closely with the Reno Orthopaedic Clinic physicians as well as other physicians to help the patient return to work and/or a productive lifestyle.

Occupational Therapists

Eric Galvan, O.T.R./L., C.E.A.S. received his Occupational Therapy degree from University of Illinois, Chicago. He is a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist and certified as an Ergonomics Assessment Specialist. Eric is licensed by the State of Nevada Board of Occupational Therapy and he joined the Reno Orthopaedic Clinic Physical Therapy and Hand Center in 2000. His focus is in upper extremity rehabilitation, that includes wrist, finger and elbow fractures, tendon laceration, custom splint fabrication, tendonitis and upper extremity sprains. He is bilingual in Spanish and English.

Michael Welch, M.B.A., O.T.R./L., C.H.T. received his Occupational Therapy degree from San Jose State University in 1983 and became a certified Hand Therapist in 2004. His focus is in upper extremity rehabilitation which includes wrist, finger and elbow fractures, tendon laceration, custom splint fabrication tendonitis and upper extremity sprains. Michael joined the Reno Orthopaedic Clinic Physical Therapy and Hand Center in 2004.

Trauma Fellowship

The Reno Orthopaedic Clinic offers a one year clinical fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. This is an OTA approved fellowship which seeks individuals from approved North American residency programs. Fellows are trained in a private, level II community trauma system under the supervision of ROC traumatologists Timothy Bray, Peter Althausen and Tim O'Mara. This fellowship provides an extremely busy clinical experience with an emphasis on adult and pediatric acute fracture care. Our surgeons treat a high volume of periarticular fractures in both the upper and lower extremity such as the distal humerus, tibial plateau and tibial pilon. As the region's only referral center for pelvis and acetabular injuries, trauma fellows should receive a strong clinical experience in this arena. Hip The hip joint connects the pelvis with the legs. It is a ball and socket joint with the ball on top of the femur (thigh bone) and the socket in the pelvis. It allows for twisting, bending, and back and forth motions. Reaching down to the floor and putting on your socks and shoes require a nearly normal range of motion of the hips. Walking, running, and most other upright activities can be painful if the hip is damaged, and even sitting for long periods and sleeping can be disrupted by a diseased hip.
